You Got My Back

A commissioned mural on a youth center. Instead of painting directly in my own style I asked the kids at the center to hand write the phrase ‘You Got My Back‘ and then chose one of their letter styles to translate onto the wall on a large scale. This piece gives value through size and visibility to something handwritten even if it’s the handwriting of a child. In these letters I saw experimentation and innocence. It also gave the kids from the center a sense of ownership over the mural and the building itself.
